Program:

  • Day 1: Reception, transfer and accommodation in Hotel in La Rioja Capital City Breakfast.
  • Day 2: Excursion to Costa Riojana and San Blas de Los Sauces, depart 8am. visiting the residential area of ​​La Rioja Capital, La Quebrada and Los Sauces Dam, Villa Sanagasta, Huaco slope with panoramic views, and a chain of picturesque towns on the Costa del Velasco: Agua Blanca, Las Peñas, Chuquis, Pinchas, Aminga, Anillaco, visit winemakers and small wineries that produce homemade wines, also Aimogasta, birthplace of olive, visiting olive plantations and a 400 years old olive tree saved from the massive cut ordered by the Spanish Crown. The tour continues along the northern tip of Velasco Sierra to get to Los Sauces, another chain of small towns connected by the route, where we visit the Pucara of Hualco, at the foot of the gorge of the same name, an ancient pre-Columbian fortress city. The trip continues to Chañarmuyo, a small town and the boutique Inn of the same name, where we visit its great vineyards and the winery where we taste their wines directly from the tanks. We continue towards the eastern slopes of Cerro Famatina to a walnut area by excellence in the locality of the same name, we stay at the Finca Huayrapuca, old adobe house, today a boutique inn.
  • Day 3: We will visit old and colorful walnut groves, ancient churches of stone and adobe, the revered articulated Christ brought from Peru. We will see the production of walnut, cracking, sorting and packaging. At the site, you can opt for horseback riding, hiking and enjoy a delicious gourmet dish. Rest of the day at leisure, we recommend Excursion to gold panners and Ochre canyon, where you can witness as handmade shaking a large amount of sand to get a gram of gold. Later we ascend the imposing Famatina, visiting the junction of two rivers bicolor, the geological formation “The Cribs” to reach a panoramic point and find a deep canyon of intense ochre color. If we have enough time and thirst for adventure it’s possible to make the tour to the Mine La Mexicana rising to 4,200 meters, visiting the stations 8 and 9 of the Cable Way.
  • Day 4: Excursion to Chilecito and Cuesta de Miranda, Departing from Famatina to Chilecito, to visit the cable way of La Mexicana, Station 1, mining museum, Finca Samay Huasi Joaquin V. Gonzalez, Santa Florentina Winery, Gold river at its junction with the black Water river, striking union with two different colors, yellow and blue. Famatina ascend to the picturesque Cuesta de Miranda, with spectacular panoramic views up to 2,020 meters. In the afternoon, return to La Rioja by the southern side of the Valley, Los Colorados. Hotel accommodation with breakfast.

  • Day 5: Depart from Villa Union to Talampaya National Park, also a World Heritage Site for being the only place on Earth where on surface are exposed sedimentary layers of the entire Triassic Period. We enter the circuit in park vehicles on groups “Talampaya Canyon” 2.5 hours, entering the dry riverbed of Tala, between straight and imposing cliffs 150 m high, the Grand Canyon, with 4 stops, watching petroglyphs, palpable evidence of the passing of former inhabitants of the region, representative vegetation, fauna and varied geo carved by erosion over millions of years, such as the Wizard king, the Gothic cathedral, the tower and the Monk forms, among others. In the afternoon we return to Villa Union.
  • Day 6: Depart from Villa Union to Ischigualasto Provincial Park (Moon Valley, Province of San Juan), which together with Talampaya National Park (La Rioja) were declared by the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site by its landscape, scientific, archaeological, paleontological and geological value. We enter with our vehicles to a 3 hours circuit with 5 stops, observing unusual geo sculpted by wind and rain forms such as the Worm, Balls field, the submarine, the mushroom and the red canyons. In the afternoon we return to La Rioja.
